Another WIP of the Archangel. About 50-60% done I estimate detailing wise. I really recommend downloading this one to appreciate just how much detail is going into this design.
As a note, this ship marks the first time in my CoM designs that I have illustrated every weapon. From the 120-inch turreted main gun to the point defense lasers (the hexagonal red clusters positioned along the length of the ship), they are all there.
Feel free to toss questions at me and I apologize this one is takings so long. Its the bloody detail...
this is an amazing ship im guessing the upper 3 rows (atleast) are missile bays? (pretty much a noob to CoM, doing a little research now)
also, you ever read the honor harrington series? there are a couple of similarities in ship design (broadside weapons galore, ship propulsion, basic layout of the ship)
As for honor harrington, the similarities are really just in the fact that both ships use broadsides. How those ships function and even how propulsion works is VERY different from Honorverse. Firstly, ships don't travel near speeds of light around a planet. Also, acceleration is very different. Also, most of the battles in this verse take place over much shorter distances, and there are no lasers or grasers, nor are there flying double ended space dildos (I do lover honor verse but I am not too fond of the ship designs). Ships in this verse instead use kinetic rounds and burst projectiles.
and i agree with the ship design philosophy, it works well for the honorverse (may change with the new spider drives, that was total unseen)but i do like your ship designs much better
Honorverse ship's are fun to read about. They sound epic and I'll admit some of the better renderings of them look good, but I wanted my ships to look like nothing else. So I looked to the long sleek battleships and battlecruisers (as well as cruisers) of world war II and what you get is the above (and the finished image now in my gallery)
Well I use adobe illustrator for my CoM ships and every other pieces I do. Its a great program, but if you are looking for a free version that may be a bit more accessible to try out vector art, I recommend Inkscape. Its a good starter program that has helped a lot of people take off into the realm of vector work (myself included).

Heh, the devil is in the detail, as they say.
You're doing awesome work.
Best of wishes for your studies etc.
Much cheers to you and yours.
Its a sensor platform component. You'll notice the ship has these arrays spread around its hull.
Yes, highly technical term that "Thingy". Up there with "What's it's" and "Guffin".
Much cheers to you and yours.
