Archangel New Background by madeinjapan1988 Archangel New Background by madeinjapan1988
I recently did some tweaking with the background on my starships as I was unsatisfied with the plain black. It was a poor frame for my ships.

Also, this image reflects the transition. (I just noticed that I forgot to update the name plate, but it should be DN soon).

Recently I went through and changed up the classifications of starships in response to a few request and comments from players that got me thinking. So below is the new set up.

Old - New

Ships of the Line:
Superdreadnought - Dreadnought (DN)
Dreadnought - Heavy Battleship (BG)
Battleship - Battleship/Battlecruiser (BB/BC) (depends on specs)
Battlecruiser - Armored Cruiser (CA)

Ships of the Lance:
Heavy Cruiser - Strike Cruiser (CS)
Light Cruiser - Destroyer Leader (DL)
Destroyer - Destroyer (DD)
Frigate - Frigate (FG)
Corvette - Corvette (CR)

Hope you all enjoy.

Keep them coming, these are some of the best designs I've seen. Can't wait to see some more of the ground vehicles as they role out. Great job!

The designations now have a more WWI feel to them. Weren't Dreadnought-era ships called armored cruisers in WWI? And battlecruisers were built to combat armored cruisers.

Actually no. Armored cruisers were pre dreadnought ships. More in the Late 90's early 10's of the 19th and 20th century. Battlecruisers were built as a follow on to dreadnoughts and superdreadnoughts in WWI as a concept of a heavy warship with high speed. A cruiser killer that used speed to make up for armor deficiencies.

Sometimes I wonder what a modern day naval dreadnought would look like if one were designed.

It would be useless and pointless. For a true blue-naval conflict modern surface combatants would be upstaged by submarines. Not to mention lighter, faster, and smaller surface combatants could hunt and kill larger units easier as well. By the nature of the way warfare has gone, such a ship would only be a very expensive target with very limited functions.

Thanks for the clarification. Naval history between 1865 and the 1930's is kind of a fuzzy area for me. I'm still learning

Lots of interesting developments and creations in that time period.

All of it using a US Navy innovation: the gun turret.
