bet you don't let just any captain command one of these, is there an Alliance equivilent to a command at sea pin?

There are actually two tiers of captains. There is a Captain of the Lance and Captain of the Line. Captains of the Lance are rated to command ships all the way up to battlecruisers (though they often only stop at heavy cruisers). Captains of the Line are rated to command ships all the way up to the superdreadnoughts you see above. But more often than not a Captain who is commanding a Superdreadnought has been tagged for flag officer and will eventually command a squadron of his own.

Sooo, I know from previous comments that the Big turret amidships is an experimental laser cannon, but what are those fifteen turrets just above it, the ones arranged in fives?

Also, wickedly detailed ship, and an awesome shape. I know the Alliance is your fave, but I'm looking forward to the dreads and superdreads that other navies might field.

Those guns are the secondary point defense guns. They are 3-inch guns in quads that provide anti-frigate and anti-missile flak support. They are also the main weapons used for shore bombardment/fire support due to their precision.

I'll be working on the Alliance for the time being with maybe a stent into coalition territory (perhaps a dreadnought) sooner rather than later. I just do prefer the Alliance far more.
